ENERGYbase
Office building built to passive house standards, Vienna
One of the most ambitious office building projects in Europe was completed in Vienna in 2008: ENERGYbase, a certified passive house office building with 7,500 m2 of rentable area. It not only strives for the highest in energy efficiency, it also takes a holistic, sustainable approach based upon three pillars: passive house standards, operation with 100% renewable energy sources, and maximum user comfort. A folded façade functioning as a solar generator, solar cooling, thermal active building systems, groundwater use, and environmental humidification through plants are just a few of the components of the holistic concept.
